Tixel skin treatment is still relatively new and employs thermal energy for rejuvenation. It utilized a heated gold-plated metal plate that briefly contacts the patient's skin, transferring heat energy to targeted areas. The targeted heat stimulated collagen production, resulting in skin tightening and texture improvement.

On the other hand, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses broad-spectrum light pulses that target specific skin chromosomes, such as hemoglobin and melanin. IPL is commonly used to treat conditions like Sun damage, vascular lesions, hyperpigmentation and unwanted hair. Unlike Tixel treatment, IPL doesn't directly induce skin tightening or collagen production.

While Tixel treatment and IPL treatment are effective skin rejuvenation techniques, Tixel skin treatment uses thermal energy to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture. IPL treatment utilizes broad-spectrum light pulses on targeted skin areas to correct pigmentation, hair removal and vascular issues.

Primarily, Tixel treatment is non-invasive, while microneedling with or without RF is invasive. Both providers and patients also report more wrinkle reduction and skin tightening with Tixel treatment than with microneedling and RF microneedling.

Microneedling uses a device with tiny needles to penetrate the patient's skin, creating micro-injuries that trigger the body's natural wound-healing response, stimulating collagen production. There's no skin penetration or bleeding, and patients report Tixel treatment as a more comfortable treatment option. Compared to microneedling and RF microneedling, most patients report that Tixel skin treatment is less painful.

RF microneedling combines traditional microneedling treatment with the delivery of radiofrequency (RF) energy into even deeper layers of the skin. RF microneedling also creates micro-injuries to the skin and delivers heat energy into the dermis, stimulating collagen production and skin tightening.

Tixel treatment is well-tolerated by most patients, with some people undergoing the treatment without anesthetic. Tixel treatment typically involves a mild heat sensation during the procedure. Patients report feeling a warm sensation in the targeted areas when the heated metal plate comes into contact with their skin, similar to a prickling sensation or sunburn.

Some patients may also experience a slight stinging sensation or discomfort, particularly in more sensitive skin areas. However, the discomfort levels may vary depending on the intensity of the treatment, the individual's pain tolerance and the targeted areas being treated.

Many facilities that offer Tixel provide options to manage discomfort during treatment, such as applying a topical numbing cream before the procedure. We can also adjust the treatment settings to suit each patient's comfort level during the procedure.

After treatment, patients can experience some swelling, redness, and a sensation similar to sunburn in the treated area, which usually subsides within a few hours or days. Overall, patients may experience some discomfort during the procedure but find Tixel treatment more tolerable and worth the skin rejuvenation and improvement results.

We recommend having three Tixel treatments for skin rejuvenation, scheduled once every four to six weeks, for the best results. These treatments can be followed by at least two follow-up treatments within the year.

Individuals treating more complicated issues, such as acne scarring or using lower treatment settings, may require more treatments. We advise patients to seek professional advice on the treatment length for the best results.

Tixel patients experience minimal downtime because the outermost layer of the targeted area remains intact during treatment. Lower treatment settings also result in less downtime compared to more aggressive settings. Patient responses may vary based on the setting, compliance with post-care instructions, patient generic factors and overall skin health.

Typically, patients may experience mild swelling around the eyes for up to 3 days and skin roughness for five to seven days.

We advise patients to stay out of the sun as much as possible after a Tixel treatment and wear a hat whenever they step outside. Also avoid heavy exercise and refrain from applying any skincare products on the treated areas except for what the provider recommends.

After 24 hours, patients may wash the treated area with gentle cleansers. They may also apply light sunscreen, makeup, and moisturizer. However, they should refrain from using skincare products with active ingredients within a week of Tixel treatment.
